Hamerlinck and Scott Win B-Flight Conference Doubles Tennis Bracket

CEDAR RAPIDS – Central College Men’s Tennis continued its run of B-Flight doubles championships at the American Rivers Conference Singles Championship Friday night.

Nick Scott (junior, Fort Benton, Mont., Great Falls Central Catholic HS) and Caleb Hamerlinck (senior, Huxley, Ballard HS) won all four B-Flight doubles matches after a first-round bye, ending with an 8-5 victory over Kareem Kassas of Loras College and Sean Gelski for the title.

A Dutch duo has won the B-Flight duos crown for three years in a row and four of the last five years since 2018.

Carter corn (freshman, Great Falls, Mont., CM Russell HS) and Brendan Hale (sophomore, Burlington) started 3-0 and advanced to the semifinals before losing to Scott and Hamerlinck in the semifinals and eventually losing the match for third place.

The singles draws only advanced to the round of 16 on each of the three flights due to rain that limited the number of courts available. Trey Hull (freshman, Ottumwa) was the only Central winner in the handful of singles matches played as they defeated Loras College’s Luis Garcia 8-5.

The remaining matches of the tournament will continue on Saturday morning at 9am
