ST. PETER – The Fairmont Cardinal women’s tennis team lost 5-2 to St. Peter Saints on Thursday at a Big South Conference match in St. Peter.
Fairmont coach Laura Olsen changed her lineup, moving players to different positions.
Fairmont’s Emelia Klanderud, usually a doubles player, won the Cardinals’ only singles point by defeating Kylie Southworth 6-1, 6-0, in fourth place in singles.
Fairmont’s Brynn Gustafson lost 6-0, 6-0 to Annika Southworth in the number 1 singles, while Fairmont’s Solveig Senf, usually playing in doubles, lost 6-1, 6-0 to Amelia Hildebrandt at number 2 of simple.
Cardinals’ Madi Peyman lost 6-0, 5-7, 6-0 to Zetta Haugen in the third singles position.
In all three doubles matches, Fairmont managed to secure a point when Paige Linse and Lilly Laven’s No. 3 team defeated Kali Erickson and Raina Roemhildt in tight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
In the number 1 doubles, Hope Klanderud and Anika Haugen of Fairmont lost in a close contest, 6-4, 6-4, to Rhyan Holmgren and Madison Kamm.
Abi Peyman and Johanna Petschke’s Fairmont number 2 tag team combination lost a 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) decision to Macy Weller and Nora Whipps to close out the double date.
Fairmont (11-7) travels to Redwood Falls next Thursday for a 4:30pm Big South Conference battle against Redwood Valley.
St. Peter (13-0) faces hosts Litchfield, Annandale Schools and Crookston in a foursquare invite at 9am Saturday morning.
