Soccer coach suspected of sexually assaulting teen in Coachella Valley

A 48-year-old football coach suspected of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl was released today.

Rosario Navarro Gonzalez was detained Thursday at 00:27 in the 27900 block of Avenida Adams, according to Sgt. Frank Schiavone of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

He posted $35,000 bail the same day and was released from the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta, according to inmate records. He is due to be indicted on December 12 at Larson Justice Center in Indio.

Palm Desert Station deputies began an investigation on May 3 to look into an alleged sexual assault in July 2021 at the 64500 block of Pierson Boulevard in Desert Hot Springs, Schiavone said.

Investigators found that the victim had been contacted again by the football coach on February 5, according to Schiavone. The girl’s parents later reported the incident to deputies and the Palm Desert Investigations Bureau, who later identified Gonzalez as the suspect.

Gonzalez was arrested in Menifee on suspicion of lewd acts with a minor, prison records show.

Anyone with information related to this case was asked to call Investigator Evans at the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Office at 760-836-1600. Anonymous tips can be called Valley Crime Stoppers at 760-341-STOP(7867) or submitted online at valleycrimestoppers.org.
