NBA Media Day Live Updates: Hawks and Wizards Start When Training Camps Begin

The last time LA Clippers President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank spoke was on the night of the NBA Draft and Kawhi Leonard was the main topic of conversation. At the time, Frank wasn’t ready to declare that Leonard was free to work five against five.

Fast forward to Thursday, approximately five days before the Clippers training begins in Las Vegas and four days before the Clippers’ media day, Frank provided the much-needed update: Kawhi Leonard has been released.

“Kawhi is all about one thing,” Frank said Thursday. “Lots of encouraging news. Organization, we know what the big picture is. We know what our objective is. And we will be very cautious and take a methodical approach.”

If there was any word other than the approach Frank often repeated when talking about Leonard, it was “cautious.” Yes, Leonard is free to work five against five, but the team is “very cautious in the approach”. And that’s how it should be. After all, as Frank describes, Leonard is a unique athlete.

“You’re not just rehabilitating one knee, you’re rehabilitating the whole body,” Frank said, describing Leonard’s diligent rehab that certainly left Leonard more swollen than ever.
