The Lindenwood women’s soccer team (4-6-1, 1-1-0 OVC) fell 2-1 to Southern Illinois Edwardsville (3-4-2, 2-0-0) on Thursday night’s Hunter Stadium in San Carlos, Missouri.
SIUE was ahead early and went up the score in the seventh minute, with a header deep into the net. Lindenwood’s defense remained strong after the early goal as the Lions faced nine SIUE shots and five corners, but the score remained 1-0 at the end of the first half. That changed when Montandon faith sent a 10-yard shot over goalkeeper SIUE’s outstretched arm, making the score 1-1 in the 41st minute. That would be the score going into halftime.
SIUE regained the lead in less than four minutes of the second half, with a shot deflected into the back of the net. Lindenwood tried to respond with two quality chances to the Paige Anderson and Lauren Tyson but both were denied.
Sam Blazek kept the Lions in the game, making five saves in the second half, including a big one in the 76th minute, denying a SIUE penalty kick. Lindenwood made a final push to tie the game but fell short, going down 2-1.
Montandon (one goal)
