Women’s tennis competes in Minneapolis – Northern Iowan

UNI women’s tennis traveled to the University of Minnesota this past weekend, September 16-18. The UNI doubles had a combined record of 10-8 over the weekend, while the singles went 6-11.

All pairs were successful over the weekend as they all managed to win at least one match. Darta Delecka and Lorena Cardoso had a very successful weekend. They started 3-0 and, after losing one match, winning another and then losing the last one, finished 4-2 over the weekend. Andrijana Brkic and Thaissa Moreira started 0-2 but managed to pull off wins in the last two matches to end the weekend at 2-2. Issa Sullivan and Lasya Mylavarapu also made it 2-2. Moreira and Mylavarapu made it 1-1 and Sulivan and Brkic also made it 1-1. That brought the duos to a solid 10-8 over the weekend.

The singles were not as successful as the doubles, as Cardoso, Moreira and Sullivan failed to come out with victories in their singles matches. All three went 0-3. However, there were still some who managed to walk away with a few victories. Dalecka made it 2-1, losing his first match but then coming back to win the next two. Mylavarapu went 1-1, losing his first and winning his second, and Brkic had a clean sweep going 3-0. The singles went 6-11 over the weekend all together.

Brkic got off to a great start in singles this season as he won the Drake Invite title and continued his wins in Minnesota. She is currently perfect in singles matches with a 9-0 total season record.

UNI will then play Omaha Duals over two weekends on September 30th and October 1st.
