Women’s football surpassed by Shippensburg

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (3-4-1, 1-4-1 PSAC East) hosted Shippensburg University (2-3-2, 2-2-2 PSAC East) in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference ( PSAC) Eastern Division action and visitors took the 2-1 victory.

Shippensburg got off to a perfect start, scoring on the first kick in the second minute and opening the lead 1-0. The Raiders doubled their lead, scoring in the 34th minute with a fifteen-yard laser to end the first half, 2-0.

LHU took five shots at half-time, including three shots on goal by the trio of Avery Landrum (Laureldale, Pa./Muhlenberg), Sydney Cauffman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood (Pastor)), and Lucas Verello (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan).

In the 59th minute, the Bald Eagles found the back of the net with a Landrum goal off a missed ball from a corner to reduce the Raider’s lead to just one.

The last thirty minutes saw Lock Haven push for the equalizing goal as the Bald Eagles edged out the Raiders 9-3 with six shots on goal, but the visitors’ two shots on goal were enough to steal the win away from home, for 2-1.

Leah Jensen (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Twp. (Concord)) and Jocelynne Kuhns (Mount Holly Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) took the last shots on goal with Landrum catching two and Cauffman and Verello each creating a shot on goal.

The Bald Eagles will travel to another conference game by visiting Shepherd on Saturday, September 24 for a kick off at 1pm.
