WHAT IS AT STAKE?
The UCF is looking to improve to 3-1 in its final test before entering the American Athletic Conference game. The Knights bounced back from a 20-14 loss to Louisville with a 40-14 rout of Florida Atlantic on the road. Georgia Tech faced ranked opponents in two of their first three games, losing to Clemson and Ole Miss by a combined score of 83-10.
QB Jeff Sims and the Yellow Jackets attack against one of the meanest passing defenses in the country. The UCF limited opponents to 121.7 yards per game, which ranks seventh nationally among teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Georgia Tech: Sims completed 57.6% of his passes while throwing for 425 yards and a touchdown in three games. Dontae Smith is the team’s leading runner with 154 yards and three touchdowns.
UCF: QB John Rhys Plumlee, an Ole Miss transfer, completed 60.4% of his passes for 778 yards and five touchdowns. He is also the Knights’ leading rusher with 304 yards and three touchdowns. RB Isaiah Bowser has five rushing touchdowns, and as a team, the UCF is averaging 273 yards per game — fourth in the nation, first in AAC.
FACTS AND NUMBERS
Plumlee was named AAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying 460 total attacking yards and three TDs in the UCF explosion at the FAU. He threw for 339 yards and two scores while rushing for 121 yards and a TD. … Georgia Tech is one of five FBS teams that have faced at least two ranked opponents in their first three games. The Yellow Jackets play another next week at Atlantic Coast Conference rivals Pittsburgh. … UCF amassed 653 total attacking yards against the FAU. The Knights are the only FBS team to have gained over 600 yards twice this season. … Georgia Tech is aiming for its first out-of-conference win since beating Georgia in 2016.
