Looking at the point guards section of the 2023 NCAA Basketball recruiting class, there is a clear top 3 in the overall group. Isaiah Collier, who has four options, Kentucky commits Robert Dillingham and Duke commits Caleb Foster. But one player who has a chance to break into that higher level is Elmarko Jackson, a New Jersey native who currently plays at South Kent High School in Connecticut.

Jackson is a consensus outlook in the top 40, with 247Sports having them as high as the top 20. When the rankings come out a year from now, he will likely receive a five-star designation. He is already a quality defender, using his size, athleticism and footwork to make life difficult for opponents. Jackson is also a good passer who can execute an attack efficiently and can drive to the basket with ease.

The shipowner prospectus updated its recruitment, with a list of seven candidates in play.

They are seven of the top shows in the country and they all have a compelling case for Jackson. But who is better off? Here’s how I would rate each of them.

7. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

After losing Blake Wesley to the pros, the Irish have JJ Starling as their projected starting point. He’s not a “designed and ready” for the NBA, but maybe he has a standout campaign that pushes him in that direction. If he stays, it would certainly affect Jackson and how viable this team is.

But even if Starling isn’t there for some reason, the overall outlook for the Notre Dame list doesn’t look great after this year. The team has five 5th-year veterans on the roster who will automatically not be around after this season, leaving a depleted core for the future. It’s hard to imagine that Jackson will want to join unless there are others following. The Irishman will likely be rebuilding himself a year from now and it will be hard to see the point guard will want to join unless he wants to be the clear face of the team.
