South Georgia Basketball Team Update

Georgia Southern men’s basketball coach Brian Burg announced today that Glynn Cyprien joined his team as assistant coach and Cam Buchanan was appointed director of development and recruitment.

Cyprien comes to Statesboro with nearly three decades of experience across the NBA, NBA G League, NCAA Division I, Junior Olympic and International and is widely regarded as one of the best coaches and top recruiters in the country. He has served as head coach, associate coach, and assistant coach throughout his career, as well as extensive executive office experience with the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies.

“Glynn is an excellent teacher of the game with a wealth of experience at all levels,” said Burg. “He is a top-notch recruiter who has demonstrated the ability to help student-athletes grow and achieve success.”

Cyprien, Burg and current Eagle assistant coach Tim Mac Allister worked together on the Texas Tech team under Chris Beard, which led the Red Raiders to the finals of the 2019 NCAA National Championship and the show’s first Big 12 Conference regular season championship. The Red Raiders recorded the show’s winningest season in the show’s history at 31-7.

Cyprien has racked up 535 wins in his 27 seasons at the college level. He was part of 12 NCAA tournaments and four NITs, including a trip to the 2004 NCAA Final Four in Oklahoma State. Over the course of his last 20 college seasons, Cyprien has been associated with 18 winning seasons and 12 campaigns with 20+ wins. His international experience includes a stint as an assistant coach for the Nigeria National Team at the 2019 FIBA ​​Men’s Basketball World Cup in China.

Cyprien served as head coach for Memphis Hustle of the NBA G League in 2017-18 and Iowa Energy in 2016-17 and was one of four coaches chosen to serve as head coach at the 2018 NBA G League Elite Combine. vital in recruiting and developing several players who have elevated their basketball skills to successful professional careers such as former NBA players Tony Allen, Will Barton, Patrick Beverley, Alex Caruso, DeAndre Liggins, Shawn Marion, Jodie Meeks, Khris Middleton and Patrick Patterson.

A 2022 graduate of Georgia Southern, Buchanan served as the team’s chief manager from 2017 to 22. In this role, he oversaw the program’s team of student managers, coordinated the filming, editing and coding of the practice and game film, assisted in the development of players and helped plan and execute recruiting visits.

“Cam has been a huge asset to the show since coming to campus and has been instrumental in helping us navigate the logistical challenges we’ve faced over the past two seasons,” Burg said. “He’s proven he’s ready for a bigger role on the show and we’re excited to have him on the team.”
