It’s extremely rare to see an NBA coach facing significant internal discipline from his team, but apparently that’s what’s about to happen to Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka.
The Celtics head coach, who is coming off his first season with the team, is facing a significant suspension from the franchise for violating organizational guidelines. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the bombshell news Wednesday night.
“Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka is facing potential disciplinary action – including a significant suspension – for an unspecified violation of organizational guidelines. Discussions are ongoing within the Celtics regarding a final determination,” he said late on Wednesday. Wednesday.
“Udoka led the Celtics to an Eastern Conference title and an NBA Finals berth against the Golden State Warriors in his first season as head coach.”
Udoka is coming off his first season with the Celtics, in which he led the team to an appearance in the NBA Finals. The Celtics fell to the Warriors in the NBA Finals.
NBA fans are quite surprised by Wednesday night’s vague news.
“Is that really all he’s going to tweet about udoka? is that the full tweet????” wrote a fan.
“Ime Udoka might be suspended, but they didn’t give a reason… Now, why that?” wrote another fan.
“This is the most serious and completely vague tweet I’ve ever seen. I have no idea if Udoka missed a flight or killed a coworker,” wrote another fan.
It will be interesting to see if more details start to leak out about the plight of Udoka, who is currently dominating the NBA world on Wednesday night.
The league’s 2022-23 season is scheduled to begin in about a month. At this point, it might be surprising to see Udoka on the bench as the 2022-23 NBA regular season kicks off.
