Energy FC gets Taft Stadium lease extension

Energy FC and the Oklahoma City Public Schools have agreed to a multi-year extension of the pro football team’s lease at Taft Stadium, the team announced Wednesday.

Taft Stadium has hosted Energy FC for the past eight seasons thanks to a partnership with OKC Public Schools. Energy have not played this season, so a new lawn and LED lighting can be installed at an 88-year-old venue that has hosted many notable sporting events.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with the Oklahoma City Public Schools and continue playing at Taft Stadium,” Energy FC COO Jeff Kretchmar said in a statement. “The history of this stadium and its impact on the community is undeniable and Energy FC is very proud to be a part of both.”

The team, which competes in the United Soccer League, is expected to return to play in 2023.
