Women’s football draws Anderson 1-1 at SAC Play

Hickory, NC – The Lenoir-Rhyne women’s soccer team scored a goal in the first half of Snow Duston but the Trojans drew late in the first half, with the two teams drawing 1-1 on Wednesday night’s SAC game. Anderson’s goal was the first goal the Bears gave up on SAC after posting three straight clean sheets to open conference play.

  • The Bears started with four corners in the first eleven minutes of the game and the final capitalized on the fourth as Evan O’Leary found Duston wide open in the area when Duston shot the right post for the first goal of the game.
  • LR finished the Trojans 11-1 in the first half, but Anderson used that lone shot to score the equalizer, while Bethany Anderson hit the ball from outside the box to tie at one.
  • The Bears dominated the second half, beating the Trojans 13-2 and taking three more corners in the second half, but the Bears could not find the winning goal.
  • The Bears held off the Trojans on just three shots on the day, as SA Phillip didn’t have a save on goal for the Bears in the competition.


  • Bears move up to 7-1-2 against all-time Anderson at home
  • The Bears’ only home loss to Anderson was on September 8, 1996, on the first programs ever encountered.
  • Duston scored his second career goal against Anderson, Duston and assistant coach Allie Zueger scored goals in last year’s 2-1 win over Anderson.
  • This was the Bears’ second draw this year, after five draws in last year’s final four.
