On the second single, Grace Carr lost to Riley Gloystein 3-6, 0-6.
“Grace got off to a hot 3-0 start, but Riley fired again midway through the first set and didn’t give up” said Pelegrino.
Lucy Harrison scored Warren’s only singles win of the day by defeating Mackenzie Bruce 6-1 6-2.
“This was a solid performance by Lucy,” said Pelegrino. “We are working on getting her to play a little more aggressively and finish the points early, and she executed that plan well today.”
In a doubles sweep, Izzy Heacox and Kaelin Hatfield defeated Grace Lyle and Tristyu Rihi 6-1 6-1. Madalynn Perry and Sydnie Cochran defeated Arden Claudio and Merisha Temang 6-0 6-0.
“Our stunt doubles came out and started working,” said Pelegrino. “We were off the court in 30-40 minutes, giving us a quick 2-0 in the match. We feel we have some of the strongest duos in the district and we are very impressed with today’s game.
“This win puts us 4-5 for the season heading into the regional showdown (Wednesday) with McDowell at home,” said Pelegrino. “I think as a team we are starting to click at the right moment, but we need to be at the top of our game tomorrow if we want to beat McDowell. The best part of this match is that it will be a good match to prepare us for our 2A rival Mercyhurst this Thursday.”
