Ry de la Rosa hits the winner as JRU breaks Arellano’s streak

RY de la Rosa hit the biggest basket of his young career, sinking all three from the left corner to help Jose Rizal University surprise Arellano 70-67 Wednesday in the NCAA Season 98 Senior Basketball Tournament. at Filoil EcoOil Center in São João.

The returning point guard put the exclamation point on the Heavy Bombers’ exhilarating fourth-quarter attack, punching the brave trey with 4.8 seconds left as they fought from a 16-point hole, 55-39.

It proved to be the only basket by dela Rosa who missed her first four shots and had just one rebound and one assist under her belt.

Still, his heroics culminated in an incredible comeback for JRU, who used a 21-0 blast to come back from a 56-42 deficit to a 63-56 lead with 5:50 left.

Arellano, however, refused to go down as easy as Danielle Mallari tied the game at 67 with a tight stab.

Cade Flores and Axel Doromal unfortunately failed to convert into their potential buckets of endorsement in the final minute that left the window open for JRU to steal the win once again.

Joshua Guiab led the Heavy Bombers with 17 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, William Sy threw three long bombs for his 13 points and six rebounds, and Marwin Dionisio had 12 points and six rebounds.

JL de los Santos also recorded a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and six cents in the win to pull JRU’s position to 2-2.

Arellano saw his two-game winning streak cut short as he dropped to a 3-2 card.

He also squandered Axel Doromal’s 24-point night as he also had four rebounds and two assists.

Shane Menina had 13 points, nine rebounds and five cents, while Cade Flores had just eight points and eight rebounds in the loss.
