Loyalty in professional sports can often be hard to come by. This is particularly true in the NBA, where it has become increasingly common for even the best players to play on multiple teams. It’s a more recent phenomenon and is the result of shorter contracts, increased cap space, and forced trades from some key players.
All of this contributed to the sharp increase in player movement and a sharp drop in supposed loyalty. To be clear, loyalty is a two-way street, and there’s also been a drastic increase in teams going from players only to losing pay or accumulating picks. This leads to questions about who are the most loyal players in the NBA right now.
To qualify, players must have played at least seven consecutive seasons with a team and have never asked to be traded with that team. Also, leaving in free agency does not count against that player.
We will also prioritize prominent players over role players because they are more valuable and therefore have a lot more options, making the decision to stay on a team even more impressive. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, here are the totally loyal teams in the NBA.
