Andrew Wiggins had a spectacular year with the Golden State Warriors during the 2021-22 season. He made his first All-Star appearance and established himself as an elite player in the league. Last season, Andrew Wiggins averaged 17.2 PPG, 4.2 RPG, and 2.2 APG while shooting 39.3% beyond the bow.
Obviously, there is no doubt that Andrew Wiggins is a talented player. He’s shown he can have a positive impact on a champion team, and Wiggins is a fan favorite in the Bay Area. However, it seems that some people believe that Andrew Wiggins has become overrated.
In a recent ESPN player ranking, Andrew Wiggins was ranked ahead of Kyrie Irving. Obviously, Kyrie Irving is generally considered to be the best offensive player and is most accomplished. Many NBA fans have had strong reactions to the news, with many suggesting that Andrew Wiggins is not close to Kyrie Irving as a player.
Kyrie Irving has not played for most of the 2021-22 season and will have the chance to show the world that he is a better player than Andrew Wiggins next season. Obviously, it looks like the point guard himself was underrated due to his part-time status last season.
Even though most people believe Kyrie Irving is a better player, that doesn’t mean Andrew Wiggins is bad. He’s definitely had a solid year, and it will be interesting to see if he can maintain his elite two-way game.
Golden State Warriors Need Andrew Wiggins to Win Another Title
Andrew Wiggins’ rebound and defense were crucial for the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 playoffs. Steve Kerr even noted that the Golden State Warriors would not have made it to the finals without the star’s presence.
So much talent and so much skill and she needed to figure out her role with this team. We are so lucky to have Steph, Klay, Draymond, Andre who are basketball players. They understand the game, they understand that a guy like Wiggs has so much value… We wouldn’t be here without Wiggs. His defense throughout the playoffs has been incredible, the threat he offers offensively gives us another dynamic.
Obviously, the Golden State Warriors will be the favorite to repeat next season. After all, they are an elite defensive team led by the best point guard in the league, Stephen Curry.
However, the Golden State Warriors will need Andrew Wiggins to play well. As long as he continues to provide multipositional defending, shooting and cutting, he will be a valued player for the team, and there is no doubt that Andrew Wiggins has managed to revitalize his Golden State Warriors career.
