BIRMINGHAM, Allah. – The University of Jacksonville women’s golf concluded its first event of the season with a sixth-place finish at the Hoover Invitational Tuesday.
Ashley Huffman posted a top 20 at their first college event to accompany the Dolphins.
After a rocky start, the Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida native found a good pace, paring six out of seven holes at one point in her first nine of the day. She followed with par on every hole but one to close out her round with a T16 finish.
Casey Powell finished in the top-25 also for JU, placing T21. She paired consecutive holes to start the day and ended her round with seven in total.
Susana Olivares shot in the lowest round of the day for a Dolphin and climbed seven sports in the final leaderboard. She hit five straight pars on her second and sixth holes, and ended her round with two birdies and five pars.
Jenna Fonda was the Dolphins’ top climber on the final leaderboard, moving up nine spots in her final round. She started strong, with a birdie on the fourth hole and bogey-free golf for the first eight holes of the day. She completed her round with three consecutive pairs to close it.
Ivete Rodriguesplaying in his first career collegiate event, he found a good rhythm on his back nine, making seven straight pars to finish.
Powell hit par-3 on Par-3, tying with the best score on the course on those holes. Huffman was JU’s top scorer in Par-4s and Par-5s, hitting par-par in the latter. Olivares had a team record of 34 pars, while Huffman and Powell had seven birdies in total.
The Dolphins are back in action at the Jupiter Women’s Invitational, starting Monday, October 3 at Johnathan’s Landing Golf Club in Boca Raton, Florida.
