CUNYAC Community College Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week
Josanne Lewis, BMCC

Rookie Josanne Lewis rode a record-breaking week on the program and returned to double-doubles during week 1-1 of the BMCC women’s volleyball. During a four-set battle against Division II, Raritan Valley CC Lewis put on a show leading the Panthers both offensively and defensively, hammering 16 kills and earning 21 digs for his first double-double of the season.
Lewis saved his best performance during the Panthers’ thrilling five-set victory (24-26, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 16-14) over Dutchess Community College. Lewis opened a single-game show with 30 kills, eight of them in the first set and the last to leave his hand, capping the victory over the Falcons Saturday afternoon at the BMCC Gymnasium.
Lewis’ new 30 kills in a single game surpasses Yolireisi Pichardo’s show record of 21 kills, which she achieved twice during the 2018 season against Fashion Institute of Technology on Sept. September 22.
She landed her second double-double of the season, going on the defensive with 26 hits and tying with five service aces.
CUNYAC Community College Women’s Volleyball Week Rookie
Emanuella Aurel, BMCC
Emanuella Aurel put together another productive week for the Panther women’s volleyball team that went 1-1. During a four-set battle against Division II, Raritan Valley CC had a strong ride with 14 digs, eight kills, two assists and one block.
Aurel saved his best performance for last in a thrilling five-set comeback win (24-26, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 16-14) over Dutchess Community College, leading the Panthers defensively with a career and a game-high 39 digs to track the nine best career kills. She also provided five assists in the match.
The 2022 CUNYAC Community College Women’s Volleyball Championship is scheduled for Monday, October 24 at Queensborough Community College.
