Central adds new men’s basketball assistants

PELLA—Coach Joe Steinkamp added a pair of assistants to the Central College men’s basketball team.

Jacob Bennett will serve as the junior varsity coach. A graduate of Iowa State University, Bennett has served as the ninth grade coach at Newton High School for the past two seasons. He is also a 5th grade professor of social studies at Newton.

will also be assisted Brian Simpson, who is vice president of business development for Precision Pulley and Idler (PPI) in Pella. A native of Maysville, Kentucky, Simpson played two seasons at Troy University (Ala.) and was part of a team that finished second in the 1993 NCAA Division II Championship. He spent one season as a senior assistant coach there.

Steinkamp is in his first season as Central’s men’s basketball head coach, after spending five years as a women’s basketball head coach and 10 seasons as a men’s assistant. Conor Riordan is in his first year as the top assistant on the varsity team.

The Dutch open the 2022-23 campaign on November 8 at Waldorf College in Forest City.
