Tuesday is the day Brush boys golf will have a chance to qualify for the Class 3A state tournament.
The long season will end and will end for some when the Beetdiggers converge at the Highland Hills Golf Course in Westminster on Tuesday morning for the 3A Region 3 tournament. The top two teams and 13 individuals unaffiliated with those teams will earn their spots at the state tournament. , which for 3A will be played at Pinehurst Country Club in Denver October 3-4.
The regional will include seven teams from the Patriot League and nine from the Northeastern League, as well as Resurrection Christian, Faith Christian, Jefferson Academy, Berthoud, Severance, Wellington and Holy Family.
The task will not be an easy one for the ‘Diggers, who are ranked 30th in the standings by scoring average, as they will be battling fourth-ranked Resurrection Christian, No. 8 Severance, No. 9 Holy Family and No. 10 Eaton, just to name a few.
The ‘Diggers, however, had a fair amount of success in their most recent tournament at Quail Dunes Golf Course in Fort Morgan last week, when they placed fourth out of nine teams with 276 cumulative strokes.
In that competition, Erie, Fort Morgan and Sterling dominated much of the top 15 individual marks, but rookie Keeton Jilek managed to break into the top 20 by tying for 19th with a score of 90. He narrowly beat his veteran. teammate Myer Wickham, who carded 92 en route to 21st place.
Junior Kaden Conner and senior Parker Stone were not far behind, finishing 22nd and 25th with 94 and 95 strokes, respectively. Freshman Ben Mettlen completed Brush’s overall performance in 32nd with a score of 103.
