At the. 11 Women’s Golf to Host the “Mo”Morial Invitational – Texas A&M Athletics

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M’s No. 11 women’s golf team is set to host the “Mo” Morial Invitational on Tuesday and Wednesday at the 6,406-yard par-72 Traditions Club for the first time since 2014.

head coach Gerrod Chadwell is kicking off the lineup that led the Aggies to their first semifinal appearance at the 2022 NCAA Championship. Headlining the group is the ANNIKA award watchlist selection Blanca Fernandez Garcia-Poggio. She is accompanied by Jennie Park, Hailee Cooper, Adela Cernousek and Zoe Slaughter.

Additionally, Lana Calibuso-Kwee will make his second appearance for Maroon & White as a singles after placing 12th at Pebble Beach to start the year at the Carmel Cup. The first career departures are Lauren Nguyen and Antonia Zacharovskawho are also competing as individuals.

Tournament Information

The 54-hole tournament has 36 holes scheduled for the first day of competition. The game will start at 8 am with a shotgun launch. The tournament will end on Wednesday with the final 18 holes. Live stats can be followed at golfstat.com.

Last time
Maroon & White kicked off the 2022-23 campaign with a runner-up in the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach, September 2-4. The Aggies shot 1-over and were just behind reigning National Champion Stanford Cardinal. Park finished third and Cooper finished in the top 10, coming in ninth.

History of “Mo”
The “Mo” was last played in 2014 and returns after the eight-year break. The tournament is named after Monica Welsh, Aggie’s former women’s golf. Welsh, who tragically died in an automobile accident in 1992, was a four-year winner for the Aggies from 1978 to 1982. She was twice selected by the TAIAW All-State and set the then-record for the low competition round (68 ) in 1981 at the TAIAW State Championship. This marks Maroon & White’s 20th time hosting “Mo”. The Aggies have finished in first place six times, an event best, including a record 25-stroke win in 1996.
