Andreach, Freeman and Pozder compete in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Official Athletics Website

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Three members of the University of Notre Dame Fighting’s Irish women’s tennis team competed in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic this past weekend. Freshman Bojana Pozder, Junior Julia Andreach and Senior Page Freeman competed in the event. It was the first tennis squad event for this 2022-23 season.

On day one, the Irish duo of Freeman and Pozder opened the day with a 6-2 victory over VCU’s Anastasia Smirnova and Emma Valletta. Andreach teamed up with a student-athlete from Mercer, who also claimed a 6-2 win against a Miami (OH) duo.

In the singles matches, Pozder suffered a 6-2, 6-3 defeat in his first collegiate action. Andreach recorded a pair of wins taking down Laura Rico of Miami (OH), 6-2, 6-2, and Victoria Smirnova of VCU, 7-5, 6-1. Freeman opened the event with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Norah Balthazor of Butler before taking down Stella Ribaudo of the Navy 6-2, 60.

Saturday started with doubles where Andreach and teammate Mercer couldn’t keep up with Friday’s pace, dropping to a double from Iowa State, 6-4. Freeman and Pozder fell to eventual tournament champions Madison Sieg and USC’s Naomi Cheong, 7-6 (1).

Andreach started the singles game with a 6-0, 7-6 victory over Liz Norman of Purdue before falling to Sieg, who would go on to become the tournament champion. Freeman suffered a 7-5, 6-3 loss to Oklahoma’s Emma Staker to end Saturday’s action.

The Irish are back in action from September 30 to October 2 at the Spartan Invitational, hosted by Michigan State.
