HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Pendergrass on the hunt at Junior PGA; Model places 13th | Sport

Madison Central’s Clay Pendergrass put in a very solid opening round Tuesday at the 2022 Junior PGA Championships at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Palos Park, Illinois.

The senior shot a +2.74 and is tied for 39th place.

Nicholas Gross and Jay Leng (-5) top the standings.

Pendergrass had four birdies on Tuesday (No. 8, 9, 13 and 14), but also had two double-bogeys (No. 7 and 12) and two bogeys.

Only 15 golfers were under par after the first round.

The field will be reduced to 60 after Wednesday’s second round and to 30 after the third round.

Model finishes 13th

The Model Laboratory boys’ golf team finished 13th on Tuesday at the Flyers Classic, which was held at Juniper Hills in Frankfort.

The Patriots finished with a total score of 330.

Jake Hajjar shot a career-low 73. Carson Fain shot a career-low 75. Cole Davis shot an 88. Ryan Kidd posted a 94 and Eli Estes finished with a 103.

Bethlehem (288) took the team title by three strokes over Scott County. Pulaski County (292) came in third.

Model will be back in action Friday at the Garrard County Invitational at the Old Bridge Golf Course in Danville.
