Trans-Am Series TA2 driver Connor Mosack is back for another NASCAR Xfinity Series start, this time entering the Watkins Glen International match on August 20. He will drive the #26 Toyota GR Supra for Sam Hunt Racing in what will be his second start.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity to race with Sam Hunt Racing at Watkins Glen this year,” explained Mosack. “Sam has a great group of guys and I look forward to working with them. My goal going into the race is to finish in the top ten. Sam has competitive cars and if we can stay out of trouble in the race I think we’ll be in a good place at the end.”
drive for TeamSLR in Trans-Am, Mosack is third in the TA2 standings after eight laps. He leads the class in Poland with three in Charlotte, Road Atlanta and Mid-Ohio, while his best finish is second in Charlotte. He finished third in the 2021 standings with a win at Watkins Glen, and will receive additional track time there for the Xfinity event as Trans-Am visits the New York road course on September 7-11.
Although primarily a sports car driver, Mosack’s stock car career began as a late model driver. In 2021 he started part-time competition in the ARCA Menards Series with all eight starts so far coming on ovals. He drove six races for Bret Holmes Racing in 2022, scoring top ten in each with a best run of third in Iowa.
In June, he made his Xfinity debut as a road ringer for Joe Gibbs Racing at Portland, but was involved in a late crash and finished twenty-eighth after starting eighth. A month later he went to the Camping World Truck Series event in Mid-Ohio for BHR, only to retire again after his brakes gave out and placed 34th.
“Connor is an amazing young man and a talented race car driver, especially when you consider what time his racing career started,” said SHR’s eponymous team owner. “I am excited and proud to add him to our SHR driver list. His personality, moral compass and competitiveness fit our culture perfectly. We are all excited to work with him and continue his move to the Xfinity Series.”
SHR’s #26 was driven by seven drivers in 2022: Parker Chase, Jeffrey Earnhardt, Santino Ferrucci, Derek Griffith, John Hunter Nemechek, Chandler Smithand Ryan Truex. Earnhardt and Nemechek have scored top tens for the team, while the car is eighteenth in owner points.
